 | Beckley Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits Saturday, June 4th, 2011: "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Jake Beckley after his 5-hit performance against the Cougars. "No offense meant to Charlotte, but it was like I was back in little league again. I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Sounders Ballpark."
The Indianapolis first baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats and pacing his club to a 17-1 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Jake worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Beckley said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
J. Beckley singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Peavy in the 8th.
In his stats this season, Beckley has posted a batting average of .332 with 77 hits in 232 at-bats, 5 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has also scored 39 runs, walked 14 times and compiled a .371 OBP. | |
